Both Sentry-go Plus! & Sentry-go Quick Monitors can monitor your server, 24 hours a day. When an error is detected - e.g. when a monitoring check fails, a check cannot be completed or the value returned is outside of an expected limit, it important that action is taken as soon as possible. This may be to attempt to resolve it automatically, or to alert you as quickly as possible in the most appropriate format.

The monitor can either take action itself automatically to resolve the fault, inform you as to the type and whereabouts of the problem, or both.

You can configure the monitor to trigger an alert only if an error occurs repeatedly over a given period of time - e.g. continual high CPU usage.

Once an error is detected & an alert triggered, Sentry-go Plus! can also be configured to ignore the check for a given period of time, giving you time to investigate and/or resolve the problem without more alerts being constantly produced.

Displaying alerts on the Sentry-go Plus! Client Console (Sentry-go Plus!)

The Console is the primary client component of Sentry-go Plus! and, in addition to the local server, can be installed on any number of desktops. It allows you to list and view alerts from all registered monitors as they occur across your entire environment.

From here you can also access the latest status in real-time, view the most recent alert history, view exactly how Sentry-go Plus! itself is performing as well as access & modify configuration values.

See more information on the Sentry-go Plus! Client Console.

Displaying alerts on the Quick Monitor Console (Sentry-go Quick Monitors)

The Quick Monitor Console is freely available with Sentry-go Quick Monitors and allows you to list and view alerts from all registered monitors as they occur across your entire environment. From here you can also access the latest status in real-time as well as view the most recent alert history and view exactly how the Quick Monitor itself is performing etc.

See more information on the Sentry-go Quick Monitor Console.

Taking Automatic Action in Response to an Error

In most cases you want the problem resolved as soon as possible ands for more predictable errors - e.g. a failed service or lack of disk space, Sentry-go can take action automatically & then check to see that the fault has indeed been fixed.

The options available are dependent on the check being performed, but include rebooting the local server, restarting a failed service, running or terminating applications, terminating SQL queries,  pausing or deleting print jobs etc.

You can also run a command, 3rd party application, or VB Script containing your own custom logic response.

With Sentry-go Plus!, you can use the Scripting Wizard to help generate the scripts you require automatically.

For those who do not wish to code scripts, you can also view & download scripts from our scripting library.

See more information on resolving problems automatically with Sentry-go Plus!.

   Sending an Alert

You can also notify one or more Administrators, the helpdesk or support team using a variety of methods including network message, e-mail or SMS gateway. In addition to standard methods, Sentry-go Plus! also offers the Scripting Wizard, providing an easy way of implementing other scripted solutions tailored to meet your individual needs - e.g. including SMS (text) messaging & authenticated SMTP.

See more information on on sending alerts.

Logging Alert Information to a File

In addition to notifying, you can also log faults to a local or central ODBC database, file or SysLog server.

See more information on logging information to a file or database.

  Sending a Daily Summary

The daily summary report can be sent to any defined Administrator by e-mail. It summarises the previous day's activities, and includes the total alerts triggered split into categories. It is an ideal way to see what's happening on the server overall as well as giving peace of mind when no alerts are being triggered, to confirm all is well.
