Monitoring FTP Access

FTP is used extensively for the transfer of files from one machine to another. You may use it to provide downloads from your site, or to transfer files internally or externally to another system. Typically, FTP sessions are run either automatically in the background or sometimes from dedicated FTP clients. Where background automation is used, or you have no control over the client (e.g. if a customer is running it), it is often very difficult to detect faults. In the case of a customer, he or she may well simply go elsewhere on the internet.

The Sentry-go Quick Remote Web Monitor allows you to perform these tasks remotely & automatically, just like an FTP client would do, reporting any errors as required.

  FTP Checks

To monitor your FTP access, you simply define the FTP site & the check you wish to perform - much like a typical FTP client job. For example ...

Check FTP server availability

Check the ability to access a remote file via FTP

Retrieve a file from or transfer a file to the FTP server

Run direct FTP commands and check the reply

Why Monitor Your FTP Site ?

In order to function, many web-based & background systems use FTP to transfer files. Without it, a significant amount of functionality may be disabled or unavailable which may, in turn go undetected until a customer reports the error.

With the Sentry-go Quick Remote Web Monitor, you can not only verify that the underlying FTP service is available, but also check to see that the service is working correctly and has access to the correct directories & files.
